Understanding the product form: adding and updating products

Add a new product

To add a new product:

  1. From your Marketcube main nav, go to Products.
  2. From the Products page, click Add product. (if editing a product click on the product you want to edit. )
  3. Enter a title for your product, along with additional details. The details you provide for a product affect the way the product appears to customers, make it easier for you to organize your products, and help customers find the product. You don't have to provide every detail for each product. 

Title and description

  • Title - The name for your product as you want your customers to see it.
  • Description - The description for your product. Describe your products in detail to inform and persuade your potential customers. If you're a reseller, then don't use a manufacturer's exact description, because you want your products to be unique to search engines.
  • Handle - Handles are unique names for each product. They can contain letters, dashes, and numbers, but no spaces. A handle is used in the URL for each product. For example, the handle for a "Women's Snowboard" should be womens-snowboard, and the product's URL would be https://yourstore.myshopify.com/products/womens-snowboard. Every line in the CSV that starts with a different handle is treated as a new product. To add multiple images to a product, you should add multiple lines with the same handle. 


The images show your customers what the product looks like.


  • Price - The price that you're charging for the product. You set the currency on the General settings page from within Shopify. Click Charge taxes on this product if the product is taxable.
  • Compare at price - The original price for a product that is on sale. When you enter a compare at price, the product displays a sale price.
  • Once a product has been created and assigned to a vendor, the base price of that product can only be changed by the vendor. Operators can only apply discounts and markups. This is also true in cases where the product price is changed from the operator's online store. This has a material impact on the commission calculations and vendor payouts. 


  • SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) - A unique value for the product. SKUs can help you organize your inventory and fulfill orders.
  • Barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN, etc.) - Barcodes are typically used by resellers. The identifier needs to be a new or existing Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). Some sales channels require a GTIN before a product can be published using the channel.GTINs are unique identifiers used internationally to store and locate product information. UPC, EAN, and ISBN numbers are examples of GTINs, which might vary in length depending on the product type. You can find the GTIN above or below the barcode on the packaging for your product.The barcode is used by Shopify POS in a retail store, for publishing products using the Google Shopping app, and when listing a product using the Amazon sales channel.If you don't have a GTIN for a product, then you can request it from the manufacturer. Learn how to get a GTIN for a product you manufacture at the GS1 standards website. Don't invent false GTIN information for your products.
  • Inventory policy - The setting for inventory tracking.
  • Quantity - Number of units in stock.


  • This product requires shipping - The setting for whether a product needs to be shipped. Uncheck it for digital products or services, or for products that you'll never ship.
  • Weight - The product's actual weight. This field can only be filled in when This product requires shipping is checked. Product weight needs to be accurate because it is used to calculate shipping rates. 


  • Product Type - This allows you to choose from product type the product you're adding belongs to. All product types are dynamically pulled from the seller's Shopify store and can be created and updated directly in Shopify.
  • Vendor -  From a dropdown list select the vendor of the product. Vendors need to exist in your Markecube app first to show in the dropdown. 


For a product that has variants, this section shows the options for the product, such as color and size. 

To add variants while you're adding a product:

  1. In the Variants section of the Add product page, click Add variant.
  2. Enter a name for the option, such as Size, in Option name. Customers will see this name.
  3. In Option values, enter each option value followed by a comma, such as Small, Medium, Large. Customers will see these option values when they are choosing a variant. When you enter a comma, the option values appear as tags:
  4. If your variants differ in more than one way, then click Add another option. You can have up to 3 options for each product. As you add the product options, a list of variants appears with the heading Modify the variants to be created. Uncheck the boxes next to any combination of options that you don't sell. You can also add prices, SKUs, and barcodes for individual variants, or use the defaults based on the product details. 

5. Click Save.

To update a product select the product you want to update from the list of products and follow the same steps.
